Have you ever feared being laid-off?

Is this a good feeling to have?

Are you saying how could fearing being laid-off be a good feeling?  Let me tell you why. The biggest reason for this is that you will work harder at being the best employee or the best manager that the company has ever had. Secondly, by acting this way you will have increased your abilities or skills and will constantly be employable.

Why do I bring this up?

The other day I was in a business and we were speaking about lay-offs. The person I was speaking to said that she was never concerned about being laid-off. I asked her why. She stated that after being in the business for 30 years she was irreplaceable. I asked her if she was sure and she made a cute comment about keeping the boss in the dark so he needed her.

Why is it that this employee would be so cavalier or casual about her job? Is she being blind to the obvious? Or is it that she doesn’t hear about the lay-offs that happen in many businesses day after day?

Are you the same as her?

What can you do to break out of this sleep walking and start to realize that the world of work is changing very rapidly?
