How long do you coach a person?

This question came to my mind the other day so I thought I would give you the answer I came up with.

I’ll give you the background first. Whenever I start to work with some one I ask them a few specific questions to see if we have a connection and if they are really open to improvement. If they score over 80% on this we can discuss moving forward.

You may wonder why I do that. It is because I don’t believe in wasting time. That is the client’s time or my energy and resources when the results are going to be meager at best. You might say oh but you are paid anyway. But that is not my mind-set. I view all transactions or contracts with the need to be mutually beneficial. Yes I’d get paid but I strongly believe that when you’ve helped others, they need to be so strongly enthusiastic about what the both of you have done that they tell others.

So to my question; ‘How long should a person be coached?’ It is up until they have achieved their goal and their behavior has changed so that they can keep using their newly acquired habits. Or if their attitude has changed. For example if they keep extending their goal or their enthusiasm to reach their goal has diminished. Then it is time to move on our separate ways.

Would you like to find out if we could work together?
