Are you a disciplined person?
Are you more disciplined today than yesterday?
What does the word discipline mean?
According to the Online Etymology Dictionary it is an early 13th Century word meaning penitential chastisement; punishment or from the Old French descepline meaning discipline, physical punishment; teaching; suffering; martyrdom.
It was the last word that got my attention; namely martyrdom. Martyrdom is a very powerful word that signifies suffering or dying due to one’s faith testimony. Martyrdom was at its peak when admitting that you were a follower of Jesus was punishable by torture and death. While it seems as if that this does not happen in today’s world there are many examples. People like Martin Luther King, Jr., who was killed in 1968, or Oscar Romero who was killed in 1980 in El Salvador or the Syrian Christians who are being murdered as they won’t give up their faith. These martyrs died because of their belief in the relevance of their faith to their lives, political ideals or social situations.
Are you saying; what does that have to do with you? My answer is everything!
I write that because their discipline was based on their belief and an uncompromising faith in what was most important in their lives.
Do you have a belief in what is most important in your life?
Do you have an uncompromising faith in all your actions towards achieving what is most important in your life?
If you do, when are you going to show it?
