Are you as confused as I am about the word inclusivity?
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary inclusivity is the quality or state of being inclusive, which means including everyone.
Who can argue with that when it comes to the public events.
I guess my confusion comes when I read press articles about public events in public places. For instance at the end of June in our community there was an event called Drag Storytime. It was held in our local museum (which is a public building). It appears that the sign-holding protestors were restricted from entering the museum.
Now you can argue all about the protestors had no right to be in this public building, although I think you should be careful of your view of a right.
What confused me and made me giggle was the statement made by one of the readers of the stories. And I quote from the article; “The fact that they weren’t (inside the museum) and we just got to be in here and have fun with the kids… I definitely felt and lot more comfortable at this one than I did at the last two.”
So inclusivity is important when it comes to these people reading stories in drag, but not good for those who wanted to stand up for what they believed.
Are you as bewildered as I am?
