Do you understand what is really important in your life?
Do your actions and words show it?
Sometime ago I was speaking to my investment advisor. We were speaking about our children and how they can be very strong when we don’t expect it. Mark (my investment advisor) told me a story about his son when he had just started school. The teacher had a system to try to get the children to participate more; it was called ‘token bucks’. When they did something good the teacher would reward them with a ‘token buck’. When they were the last one to enter the classroom she would take a ‘token buck’ away from them, even if they were on time for class. Mark’s son didn’t like this childish game. So one day he was the last one in a long line to enter the classroom. So the teacher asked him for one of his ‘token bucks’. He went to his desk collected them all and proceeded to dump them all on the teacher’s desk, while saying ‘I’m done with your game.’
Why did I tell you this story?
It is because Mark’s son showed that he understood what was important in his life, even at a very young age. This is something we forget to analyze when we get older. We have choices and when we don’t want to play the ‘silly games’ people try to dump on us we can say no.
What action can you take today to free yourself from the ‘silly games’ that are being dumped on you?
