Does change affect you?
Has it been for the good or for the worse?
It all depends on our perception of the change doesn’t it? Many years ago I was an avid hockey fan, but due to a number of circumstances my enthusiasm for the game has changed. About 1 ½ hours from my home is the arena where the Toronto Maples Leafs play hockey. I hope you noticed that I didn’t see professional hockey (okay poor humor).
The interim head coach was Peter Horachek, he took over the coaching duties after the coach Randy Carlyle was fired in early January. Mr. Horachek lead the team to 9 wins in their last 42 games. Not stellar to say the least. I was intrigued by his response to the reason he thought that the team failed. He stated “Individuals resist change,” “People don’t want to change. They want to keep it in the comfort level where they are.”
This statement say it all – as if your staff is not producing what you think is possible, they don’t want to change. If your leaders are having difficulty getting their staff to do things differently, maybe quite possibly they don’t want to change their ways as well.
So what is the answer?
Ask this question; If we continue to do what we’ve always done, why do we expect to get different results?
Now, how can you get different results?
What needs to be done?
