Have you ever had a broken heart?

Did you wish that it had never been broken?

I would like to take credit for the following quote, but it was sent to me. I include this with this blog post as it helps me explain what I believe is the true value of living life. ‘Broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.’

As a Father of two daughters (both adults now), I believe that my responsibility was to help them grow into mature and strong women. If I was going to help them mature it was important for me to get them to accept responsibility for their actions, as that is what mature people do. If I was going to help them become strong it was important for me to let them have challenges in life and not bail them out of the circumstances they got into.

The reason I feel so strongly of both of those responsibilities is that when a person becomes mature and strong they also are able to withstand many of the challenges that life presents to us.

What can you do today that will help your child or your grand-child mature and become stronger?
