How do you view suffering?
Is it a chance to blame someone, or is it an opportunity to grow as a person?
I ask these questions because of the suffering I see in the world right now. The wars, the terrorism, the killing of innocent people are all very tragic situations.
It is so easy to blame ‘those people’ isn’t it?
But what about us and the suffering we experience in our daily lives?
Yes, I’d agree that many people suffer at the hands of very evil people. But to blame them seems to give ‘them’ the significance they crave. What about if you viewed suffering differently?
I believe suffering is nothing by itself. By that I mean that it can have no real meaning. This is especially true when we blame another person for it.
What if we viewed suffering differently?
On a personal basis;
- What if we viewed suffering as a way of strengthening us mentally, so that we could take on more and bigger challenges?
- What if we could connect our suffering with the suffering we see others experiencing in many parts of the world?
- Do you think that we might view our suffering in less difficult terms?
- Do you think that you might want to do something to help those who are suffering more than you?
