How many times have you heard someone say ‘Be realistic.’?
Did that cause you to change your opinion on what you stated or thought?
Recently I was watching a television show about a group of people called the Situationists. The Situationists were a prominent group in Europe during the social upheavals in the late 1960’s. Their favorite slogan was – “Be Realistic. Demand the Impossible”. So what did their slogan mean?
It is my understanding that it was all about getting people to think outside the box. To stretch beyond their self-imposed limitations. It was all about daring to dream of what they wanted the world to become, and especially about going against the norm.
If you consider the year that this slogan was proposed, it fit in rather well, as many young people had decided to go against everything that their parents believed in. From a business perspective it is what every business needs to live. Take for example the following;
• To stretch beyond self-imposed limitations, leads to a growing and vibrant organization.
• When you dare to dream of what an organization wants the world to become you get fresh insights as to the possibilities.
• When you are going against the flow, it sets you apart from the competition, and customers take notice.
So what can you do today to ‘Be Realistic and demand the Impossible’?
