Is rationalization becoming one of our favorite hobbies?
Do you rationalize what is happening in your life?
Let me give you a few examples.
First I’ll tackle our food consumption? Have there been times when you said to yourself; ‘I’ll have two more of these delicious deserts, and I’ll exercise 10 more minutes tomorrow.’ Did you do more exercise? Probably not!
What about buying that new ‘smart phone’ when the one you are using is not that old? Did you say to yourself; ‘These new features will really help me?’ Then after you purchased the new phone you realized you have not used all the features on the phone you had before did you?
What about that new business suit? Did it make any difference in the way you performed at your job?
Every one of these examples are rationalized decisions that really didn’t lead to you writing the finest chapter in your life, did they? You made these decisions to fill a hole in your life. But did these ‘things’ fill that hole?
Is there any wonder as to why we are stressed? I know we have to start to make decisions that will help us grow to become better people. Tell me, does the amount of food you eat, the new phone or the new business suit help you become a better person?
What is one question you can ask yourself before you make a purchasing decision?
Will you start asking this question today?
