What is leadership?

Is it the action of leading a group of people or an organization?

I strongly believe that it is action in leading an organization or a department. So what does it mean to take action? To me action is the process of doing something, typically to achieve an aim or an objective.

Recently I completed one year in a membership role with our local Toastmasters Club. I enjoyed the time I used in creating awareness and recruiting new members. I would say that we had success as we increased club membership by 50%. But this was not my success in that leadership role. It was club success as our Club had stagnated for a number of years.

I believe that my enthusiasm for Toastmaster’s rubbed off and onto the other members of our club and with their enthusiasm we all were able to make our club appealing to new members.

So what should you learn from this;
• Leadership is not about getting praise for your self.
• Leadership is all about inspiring others to duplicate your enthusiasm.
• Leadership is about contributing to the long-term growth of an organization.
