What is your vision for 2017?
Is it a particular amount of money or is it what you want to become?
It appears that we live in a world that is driven by money. But are we sure that money can drive a person to do good work?
In some on-line research I found that in 1999 the founder of Zappos, Nick Swinmurn was in a mall looking for a pair of shoes. Nick spent the next hour in the mall, walking from store to store, and finally went home empty-handed and frustrated. When he got home he began looking for shoes online and was unsuccessful. So in 1999 Mr. Swinmurn thought anything seemed possible, he quit his day job and start an online shoe retailer… and Zappos.com was born!
His vision for the company was that:
- one day, 30% of all retail transactions in the US will be online.
- people will buy from the company with the best service and the best selection.
- Zappos.com will be that online store.
Tony Hsieh the CEO of Zappos stated “Chase the vision, not the money, the money will end up following you.” Why do I know this is true? In July of 2009, Zappos.com, Inc. announced its plans to join the Amazon.com, Inc. family. The rest they say is history.
Can you now see how a vision can drive you to unexpected heights?
How can your vision for 2017 be improved?
