Are you affected by words?

Is it because the words used do not motivate you?

I bring this up because of my concern over the words in Mission Statements used in many businesses that I call on. Let me give you a great example;

‘The mission of Southwest Airlines is dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit.’

While this Mission Statement speaks loudly about Southwest Airlines, I wonder if other organizations are living up to the standards that have been set before them after the executive team have spent a couple of days in planning for their Mission and the future.

What I’ve seen is that many times Mission Statements are prepared by using words that do not make any sense to those who will be executing the work to attain the Mission.

If you have a Mission Statement, why don’t you look at it today, and ask yourself; does this relate to all of our employees?

If it doesn’t, give me a call at 519-539-2267 and I’ll be able to help you fine-tune it for all your staff.
