Do your actions tell people who you are?
Did you know that your actions show people your priorities?
This past weekend the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) began. I’ve always been intrigued by it as I have a daughter that does act. What shocks me the most is how some of the media’s actions don’t appear to be focused on things that really make a difference. Let me give you an example from the other night. I watched the first 10 minutes of an evening news show. The first 9 minutes were on the stars attending TIFF. The next story was about a wall mural that had been defaced. This mural was painted in tribute to the Canadian military. This story took up a little over I minute. So my question for you is; what are the priorities of the person or people that put together the news program? It appears that they are ‘star-struck’, doesn’t it? They have lost focus on how the military has helped our nation and many nations around the world. They have lost focus on making viewers aware on things that really matter.
This brings up the question; what are your priorities? Do you focus on the trivial and wonder why your life appears to be going no where?
Is it time that you re-focus your priorities on the areas in your life that can make a difference?
Your future depends on it, doesn’t it?
Good point Tim, It raises the eternal question;
Does the media drive public opinion? Or does the media merely report on trends in society?
It seems to be a bit of both, one feeding the other, with the result that the perceived importance of trivia is continually being elevated.
Sadly, the standard of debate, and ability of people to think independently or critically, are all being dragged down by this dangerous combination.
Peter,
I like your thoughts. The challenge for us is how can we have a positive impact at getting the media to change their ways? How can we get the media to use their position in the world to improve society, not to trivialize?
