Are illusions affecting your life?

Do you understand what an illusion is?

Illusions are an awareness of occurrences in which information or thoughts arise from external stimuli and can lead to an incorrect impression. The illusions can range from a passing comment from an attractive person to an idea that you could become the leader of an organization.

The question to ask yourself is; ‘Is this thought in-line with reality?’ Do you think this is a little harsh? If you think so, you are right. The question is asked for a reason – primarily to wake the person up. Let me give you an example. You are a male in your 60’s, a young woman in her early 20’s approaches you and you have a great discussion. There could be the illusion that she is interested in you and you get all these illusions about how great it would be to be with this younger woman. Now the awareness question; ‘Is this thought in-line with my reality?’ Of course it isn’t! Let me tell you why. It is because the only place where you are going to find a young woman in her early 20’s truly interested in a 60 year old man is in a book of fiction.

So why did I write this blog?

It is because we all need to have dreams, but we also need to be able to analyze these dreams. This does not mean that we have to trash our dreams, but we do have to get a grip on reality.

So what can you do the next time you have an ‘interesting’ illusion?

  1. I can relate to your story about the older man and younger woman. About 10 years ago, when I was 39, I invited a woman in her 20s over to my place for a game of chess. As soon as the topic of age arose, she was ready to leave. Live and learn, I suppose.

    • Eric I enjoyed your comments especially the ‘live and learn’ comment. It sure appears to be the woman’s issue not yours in this situation though.
