Can you be everybody’s friend?

Do you think it is possible?

Again I am reminded of Winston Churchill when he said; “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

It occurs to me that you are either loved in some form or hated in some form in this world. I say that because I have not been convinced that you can be everyone’s friend if you share your opinions or thoughts. Let me give you an example; you are at a party and someone asks you how you feel about a controversial subject. You state your opinion and the person has this awful look on their face, and yet the person next to them is smiling. You already know that one of them appreciates your opinion and the other is ready to meet someone else.

Is there an alternative? I don’t believe so if you want to live a life of contentment. I say that because contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction. If you live in a ‘free’ country you need to be happy that you can state your opinion. You can also be satisfied that you have thought through both sides of the controversial subject and believe in what you’ve said.

So, do you want to be everyone’s friend, or do you want to stand for something?

The choice is yours isn’t it?
