Do you always accept ‘the facts’?

Why don’t you?

Recently the American Academy of Pediatrics made a policy statement about when High Schools and Middle Schools should begin the day. It appears that there is a growing amount of research that finds that teenagers are programmed to sleep later and can benefit from school days that start later in the day.  The report stated that school should begin the day no earlier than 8:30 a.m. to help teenagers get more sleep.

My first thought was; ‘Why don’t they go to sleep earlier?’ My second thought was; ‘How do the report authors expect the young people to become responsible and punctual when they work?’ My third thought was; ‘Are we just enabling these kids?’

I don’t have any answers, but I will leave you with this one question;

  • When you are forming an opinion, are you looking at all the facts?
