Do you know of someone who is overly sensitive?

Are they overly sensitive about the opinion’s others have that are not shared by them?

I once read that being overly sensitive is a coping style. It may be a coping style, but is it really helpful?

While some people who suffer from overly emotional sensitivity, claim that they are a highly sensitive person or HSP. HSP is simply a new label for old truth. That being that some people are more sensitive to environmental stimuli than others. So, there is a big difference from being a highly sensitive person and being overly emotionally sensitive.

The people who are described as being overly emotionally sensitive show a weakness, that can be changed or modified to live an improved life. But first, what is the reason for this? In order to do this, we must look at what some people are emotionally weak about.

Some people who are emotionally weak don’t want to step out of their comfort zone. Some people who are emotionally weak don’t like to consider others opinions when making a decision. Some people who are emotionally weak give up on things without ever challenging what is being done to them. Some people who are emotionally weak get angry very easily. And some people who are emotionally weak tend to be overly dramatic or over-the-top in their reactions to what others say or do.

So, what are some of the reasons behind being emotionally weak;

  1. You fear rejection.
  2. You take things personally.
  3. You worry about what others think of you.
  4. You have a hard time accepting critical feedback.
  5. You often feel unhappy on social media.

So, what can a person do? Let’s look at these individually.

  1. When you fear rejection, you are saying that you are not comfortable with your beliefs or without that special person. You also might fear loss and abandonment because of a differing view.
  2. When you take things personally, it means that you have not clarified your views about life and what is most important and when someone criticizes you or your opinion you realize that your opinion is not strong enough or you were not able to speak it clearer.
  3. When you worry about what others think of you, it shows that you are not happy in your own skin. In other words, you are too self-focused.
  4. When you have a hard time accepting criticism read the explanation in numbers 1, 2 & 3 again.
  5. When you often feel unhappy on social media, it is because you are comparing your life to the lies that are perpetrated on social media. While I am not on Facebook or Instagram, I know that these forms of social media do not portray a person’s life as it really is. Why would you compare yourself to something that is not true?

The bottom line with this blog is that we all need to become a lot more resilient in life.

What can you do today to make your life more enjoyable?
