Does a great baseball pitcher’s skills relate to what you are doing in business?

Can you describe the 3 key requirements that a pitcher needs to be very effective?

The other day I was told that a pitcher needs to be in command, have control and maintain velocity. This intrigued me so much that I thought I would write about it today from a business perspective.

What is command? It is my understanding that if a pitcher has command of his or her pitches it means the pitches are doing what he wants them to do. It is his ability to do what his intention was. If it was to throw a curve it was a curve, if it was a slider it was a slider. So how does that relate to you? When you take action, do you have the ability to do what your intention was, without being distracted?

What is control? It is my insight that if a pitcher has control he or her succeeds mostly by using accurate pitches. It means placing the pitch where the catcher wants it to be. It is his or her ability to be focused on the task at hand. If the catcher wants the pitch to be low and inside and positions his glove there, your job as a pitcher is to put it there. So how does that relate to you? When you take action, do you have the ability to do what will work with the situation?

What is velocity? Again my understanding is that if a pitcher wants to improve the velocity of his or her pitches it means that the mechanics of pitching have been improved with the use of a professional instructor. So how does that relate to you? I believe that if you want to improve in any area of business or life you need to make use of a professional instructor or coach. With the use of a coach they can help you understand your strengths and push you to be more flexible in your actions and attitudes.

My concluding question for you is; what are you going to do today that will help you be in command, have control and maintain velocity, so that you can write the finest chapter in your life?
