How to create a ‘new normal’ that will solve some of the World’s problems

A question to begin; was the normal we had before this crisis a normal that we were happy with?

Have you ever noticed that in general we humans are very good at creating symbols and slogans? Let me give you an example or two. There is the gesture when someone will use the fingers on both hands to form a heart. Then there is the slogan of ‘flattening the curve’. Yes, a symbol and a slogan that mean next to nothing if actions don’t follow the symbols and slogans we hand out like candy. If we are ever going to turn this World around, we need to look at 3 ways that can improve our World.

You and I need to;

  • Look deeper at our definition of who and what makes a person. You might be saying what are you talking about? Well let me give you an example. In the past Hitler said that the Jewish people were not human, so he wanted to get rid of them. Now we have ‘assisted suicide’ for people who no longer feel human. Look at what has happened in Holland and how the permissiveness of Dutch law on assisted suicide. I’d like to bring to your attention an article that quoted Penney Lewis, head of the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics at King’s College in London England she stated; “There is a lot of debate among Dutch doctors about what constitutes unbearable and hopeless suffering.” For your information I have the greatest compassion for those who suffer as many of my family have died from cancer, but what many people don’t know is that the suffering can alleviated without killing the person. From personal experience I know that good has come out of suffering. I state that because when many of my family members were suffering, they shared with me many great words of wisdom about how to live life. To me that is leaving a legacy. What that means to you is that every human has an intrinsic or core value that all of us can see if we look close enough. We are not disposable; we have great worth.
  • Look deeper about what the word freedom means. Many think that freedom means that we have the ability to do anything that we want to do, when we want to do it. If that was true, why do we have laws? The best example I can give you is the scenario of when a person is swinging their arms back and forth around themselves.  But what happens if this person moves close to you, forms a fist and strikes you in the head? So, with that in mind I want you to consider how your so-called freedom will continue to impact those around you.
  • Bring back some representation of our worthiness. I’ve learned as many of you have, that our happiness does not come from extrinsic or external things. Our hobby of shopping for the sake of shopping must be looked at. I state that because you can’t buy everything as you don’t have enough space to store it. We need to remember what it was like many years ago. For those that are old enough; we loved people and used things. What I’ve seen is that we now use people and love things. You will find that when we love others and contribute to their well-being our lives improve. And when I say improve, I mean that we will have a longer-lasting happiness.

There may be some of you reading this that are thinking that this is not possible. Of course, you are right. This is because you will make it self-fulfilling prophecy. I tend to agree with Mahatma Gandhi when he stated, “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.”

So, in conclusion I have a question for you; What will you do to solve some of the World’s problems?
