What are you getting yourself into?

Are you sure that is the right way to go?

My biggest concern for my business is that at times it appears that we are going through the motions. Just doing what we’ve always done, and being satisfied about this.

From my discussion with others this has shown me that I may not be alone.

I know that there are 4 areas in business that leads to failure. They are;

  • having the blinders on,
  • getting caught up in routines,
  • our self-attached shackles or restraints, and
  • the dogmas or beliefs that we adopt in our businesses.

When a company can’t get its act together employees lose any motivation or passion that they might have had.  People like and need the process in business to be effective. But employees also need to be able to see beyond what is in front of them in order to handle that challenges that both life and business offer us.

I’ve found that many businesses are suffering from Active Inertia, and by the way this is not a cute or adorable situation (sorry for that poor humor). It is the start of a down-hill slope for many businesses.

This reminds me of a story I read about a person studying a book about Mammoths. It said that it took many centuries to discover what these huge bones that were discovered in various parts of the world. The most interesting thing is that the people that discovered these large bones were unfamiliar with Elephants. Due to this, their vision of what type of creature these bones could be from was very limited by their convictions or beliefs about how old the Earth was.

Why did I tell you that story?

It is because at times our vision is rather limited. Which brings up more questions;

  • How is my vision limited?
  • Is my certainty about situations and events actually blinding me?
  • Are my assumptions closing me off from truthful wisdom?
  • What am I willing to let go of, to really learn what is important?
